Jan Ludwig born 1981 in Trier, Germany, learned the traditional craftwork as stucco plasterer in Bonn. He continued working there, gaining practical experience until he improved his knowledge with theoretical studies of protection of monuments and heritage preservation. In 2005 he moved to France and worked for different international companies across the country in order to be trained with new techniques. His practical experience includes the construction of a cruise ship, building luxury stores, working in museum and hotels, as well as restoring castles and churches. Since 2007 he lives in Zürich, Switzerland, being self-employed since 2015. He is still engaged in finding new methods of handling stucco and other materials. Jan tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based on subjective associations and formal rules of the craftwork, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations.
