His practice as a material laboratory and furniture studio is an outgrowth from his apprenticeship as a furniture-maker in Bern, Switzerland, in the early 1990’s. Material origin and its inherent properties lie at the center of his practice, which confronts the diminishing workmanship in the present-day furniture industry. Tanner’s work employs sophisticated design, engineering and production planning applied to materials of the finest origin and standards of haptic quality. This constant research led to the evolution of his studio emerging as one of the world’s leading centers of competence for the processing and production of furniture and products in 7’000 year old moored oak and other solid woods of distinction.
